Characteristics of a Successful Affiliate Manager

We all know that it takes skill and patience to be a successful Affiliate Manager. Tracking and optimizing launched campaigns while discussing new partnerships keeps the day filled with plenty of communication and analysis.

Since being in the industry I have worked with a lot of different Affiliate Managers and have had many different experiences. The best Affiliate Managers always make sure to follow up on conversations, prepare schedules for the tasks they have to do prior to the launch, and launch the campaigns by the deadline. They always work on optimizing the campaigns by doing A/B tests, testing different promotional efforts, and analyzing the results. Partnering with hardworking Affiliate Managers will save you a lot of frustration and give you free time to work on other projects. That is why the following characteristics are essential in a successful Affiliate Manager:

Determined

A determined Affiliate Manager is one that will do whatever it takes to get your campaign set up and running by the deadline. Most importantly, however, they’ll make sure to optimize the campaign to the full extent to bring the best results.

Determination plays a huge role in the affiliate marketing industry as there is so much competition. Advertisers and merchants want to work with the Affiliate Managers that have a mind set of “Get it done, and get it done the best!” Nobody wants to waste their time working with Affiliate Managers who take their time to launch a campaign and not optimize the campaign to its full potential.

Organized

Organization skills are extremely important in this industry, as one Affiliate Manager can be running hundreds of campaigns at once, all with different advertisers and different deadlines. Ones with a schedule and daily to-do list are always the most organized. They keep records of all of their advertisers/merchants discussions and what needs to be done by when.

It’s easy to come off track, so the best Affiliate Managers are the ones who can keep themselves organized each and every day.

People person

Nobody wants to work with an unfriendly Affiliate Manager who doesn’t happily greet you on the phone, send pleasant emails, ask how your weekend was, or apologize for the delay in their response. Eventually, you just get annoyed with their indifference toward your relationship and you terminate the partnership to go out and look for a friendlier Affiliate Manager to run your campaigns.

Being a people person is a very important characteristic in this industry as you interact with people on daily basis. So, if this is something that you don’t enjoy, you might want to rethink your career.

Responsive

Ever send an urgent email to your Affiliate Manager and had to wait multiple days for a response? If so, then you can understand that being responsive is one of the most important characteristics an Affiliate Manager can have. When you email them or call them and they respond to you within hours (maybe even minutes) it shows you that they are responsible and value you as a business partner. You need to be able to rely on your Affiliate Manager as they are a part of growing your revenue. Responsiveness builds trust that keeps the partnership growing.

Take a couple of minutes to think about all the Affiliate Managers that you currently work with and write a quick “thank you” to your favorites for always being a great Affiliate Manager!
