Inclement Weather Forces Postponement Of Mini Cup Round At NJMP – MotoAmerica

The Mission Mini Cup By Motul round at New Jersey Motorsports Park, July 15-16, was rained out and has been rescheduled for September 2 at NJMP.

Threats of lightning on Saturday and heavy rains on Sunday at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, New Jersey, July 15-16, forced MotoAmerica to reschedule what would have been the fourth round of the Mission Mini Cup By Motul series to what will now be the fifth round of the championship at NJMP on September 2.

The September 2 make-up round at New Jersey Motorsports Park will be open to all riders who were signed up to compete in the rained-out July 15-16 round.

“Unfortunately, we encountered the worst weather possible over the weekend with MotoAmerica Mini Cup,” said MotoAmerica Mini Cup series manager Cory Texter. “We did the best we could to get the program in, but Mother Nature wasn’t having it. It’s essential we get this round complete for the riders, so I’m thankful we could come up with a make-up date for those who attended over the weekend. As for the schedule, we will run a practice in the morning, followed by four races.” There are three rounds remaining in the 2023 Mission Mini Cup By Motul Series: August 18-19 at Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum, Pennsylvania; September 2 at New Jersey Motorsports Park; and the series finale at New Jersey Motorsports Park, September 22-23.

Bridewell does the double to be crowned Monster Energy King of Brands

Tommy Bridewell had never won a Bennetts British Superbike Championship race at Brands Hatch before today, but the BeerMonster Ducati rider celebrated a double victory to add to his tally and be crowned the Monster Energy King of Brands winner.

After yesterday’s first win in the Championship for Ryan Vickers, the weekend featured five different riders on the podium representing four different teams and three different manufacturers.

In race two, Bridewell got his day off to a winning start as he fought to the front of the pack and then pulled the pin in the closing stages to have an edge of 2.406s at the chequered flag.

Kent had initially hit the front of the pack ahead of Christian Iddon, Vickers and Jason O’Halloran. However, the lead changed on the second lap as Iddon grabbed the advantage with a move down the inside at Paddock Hill Bend.

Kent recaptured the lead at Surtees a lap later, but Iddon instantly attacked back to put the Oxford Products Racing Ducati back ahead. Vickers and O’Halloran were equally looking for their chance to make a move, but on lap seven Dean Harrison crashed heavily at Paddock Hill Bend and the BMW Safety Car was deployed. The DAO Racing Kawasaki rider was unhurt in the crash, meanwhile Josh Owens also tipped off at Graham Hill Bend.

Iddon was then back in the lead when the race resumed, but Bridewell was moving through the pack and by lap 12 he was fighting at the front and he made a decisive move at Hawthorns to head his rivals.

Bridewell then made his charge, breaking the pack whilst behind it became an intense run to the finish with five riders fighting for the final two podium positions. It was Iddon and Kent who held the advantage to secure consecutive top three finishes backing up their podium finishes in the wet yesterday with a repeat performance in the dry with Glenn Irwin fighting through to fourth ahead of Vickers and O’Halloran.

Race three became an intense five-rider race-long fight for victory in the final action of the weekend, with it coming down to the final lap between Bridewell and his BeerMonster Ducati teammate Irwin and BikeSocial Sprint Race winner Vickers.

At the start of the race, Josh Brookes was caught up in the pack and crashed out at Paddock Hill Bend unhurt. Meanwhile at the front, Kent had dived into the lead ahead of Bridewell, Iddon and Kyle Ryde, who later retired from the race on the LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha.

Iddon then took the lead on the second lap and he was holding the advantage until lap 12 when Bridewell had edged ahead with a move at Hawthorns. The lead group had become a five-rider freight train and Bridewell was holding the advantage over Iddon, Irwin, Vickers and Kent.

Irwin moved into second at Surtees on lap 15, pushing Iddon back to third and then the Oxford Products Racing Ducati rider was under attack from Vickers who made his move at Stirlings.

On the last lap, both Irwin and Vickers were hunting Bridewell but it wasn’t enough to deny him the double victory with just 0.237s covering the top three at the chequered flag.

As Bridewell claimed a second win, Irwin fought back to finish on the podium for the first time this weekend, whilst Vickers ended the event on a high with third place.

Iddon held off Kent to take fourth place with O’Halloran completing the top five for McAMS Yamaha. In the closing stages, Lee Jackson was able to get ahead of Leon Haslam on the ROKiT BMW Motorrad with rookies Charlie Nesbitt and Max Cook completing the top ten.

“It’s been a great weekend in all aspects. To win one BSB race is an achievement so to win two in a day shows how confident I am and how I feel within myself, with the bike and with the team.

“I’m really proud of what we’re doing at the moment. I’m thinking more about what I’m doing which is allowing me to analyse more, understand more, and learn more and all of that combined is helping me go faster.

“In the final race, I knew Glenn would be there with me but it’s testament to the hard work we’re doing on Friday and Saturday that I could hold him off and it’s all about maintaining the good momentum we have. To be crowned the Monster Energy King of Brands is great!”

Canadian Superbike: An Update From Flooded AMP, With Video

© 2023, Roadracing World Publishing, Inc. From a press release issued By CSBK/Professional Motorsports Productions (PMP):

Editorial Note: Scroll down to see raw drone video footage of the flooding and bridge damage shot by the TSN crew.

AMP Update as of Sunday, July 23

Shubenacadie, NS – Bridgestone Canadian Superbike Championship officials are happy to confirm that progress on ensuring the safe departure of everyone at Atlantic Motorsport Park has officially begun Sunday morning, July 23.

In conjunction with local emergency services, work has started on installing a temporary bridge on the main road in and out of the facility (North Salem Road), which has suffered significant erosion in the wake of extreme rainfall and flooding early Saturday morning.

As this is a difficult and complicated process with no estimated time of completion, CSBK officials stress that no one leaves the facility until work is finished in order to avoid delaying the exit of all involved and/or causing additional unsafe road closures.

CSBK officials will issue an update as soon as it is deemed safe to leave the facility.

This is a customary response in extreme weather scenarios like the one witnessed across Nova Scotia with record rainfall this weekend.

More updates will be provided when the temporary bridge is safely installed, at which point CSBK officials will do all they can to ensure the quick departure of everyone at AMP.

CSBK staff continue to prioritize the safety and wellbeing of everyone at the facility, and thank those for their patience during this process.

Richard Stanboli – Fresh N Lean Progressive Yamaha Racing Team Manager

“We’re bummed out that he can’t continue for the upcoming rounds, but we are encouraged that he will get the surgery that will allow him to return to 100%. I can’t thank the team enough for being so understanding, but I know after this surgery, I will be able to come back stronger and do my job, and that’s to win races! British Superbike: Race One Results From Brands Hatch

LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha rider Ryan Vickers took the victory in Bennetts British Superbike Race One Saturday at rainy Brands Hatch. It was Vickers’ career-first British Superbike win.

The race was stopped prematurely due to a red flag brought out by “track contamination,” according to the series’ official website, and because the race did not reach two-thirds distance only half points were awarded.

Lovell Kent Racing Honda’s Danny Kent was the runner-up, and Christian Iddon finished third on his Oxford Products Racing Ducati.

Americans Julian Correa and Eli Banish finished sixth and 12th, respectively, in wet R&G British Talent Cup Race One Saturday at Brands Hatch.

Vickers celebrates first Bennetts BSB win as Kent and Iddon claim first podiums in 2023

Ryan Vickers claimed his first Bennetts British Superbike Championship race win at Brands Hatch this afternoon in the BikeSocial Sprint race as the LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha rider held off Danny Kent before a red flag for track contamination. The race was not restarted and half points were awarded as two-thirds race distance had not been completed.

At the start, championship leader Tommy Bridewell launched into the lead, but Vickers was determined and as the BeerMonster Ducati rider had a big moment, he took advantage and made his move at Stirlings.

Kent was in close contention too and as the leading trio crossed the line for the start of lap three, he was able to get better drive out of Clearways to take second and ease Bridewell back into third place.

Vickers and Kent were controlling the race at the front, with a slight edge over their rivals as the pair, both fighting for their first Bennetts BSB race win, made a break from the chasing pack.

Vickers had a few moments, but he was able to keep Kent at bay, but behind Christian Iddon had moved his way into third and he was bidding to close down the pair. However, the race was red flagged for track contamination, and was not restarted due to track conditions.

That meant Vickers became the sixth different race winner in 2023 Bennetts BSB with Kent and Iddon sealing podiums for the first time this season, making it nine different riders to score top three finishes so far this year and the first in the series for the Lovell Kent Racing Honda team.

Jack Kennedy and the Mar-Train Racing Yamaha team also took advantage of the conditions, with the reigning Quattro Group British Supersport champion celebrating his best result in Bennetts BSB with a fourth place, edging just ahead of Jason O’Halloran and McAMS Yamaha.

Leon Haslam was sixth for the ROKiT BMW Motorrad Team, meanwhile Bridewell dropped to seventh, but still maintains his championship lead with 26.5 points now separating him from his BeerMonster Ducati teammate Glenn Irwin who finished in tenth place.

Storm Stacey was eighth after a hard-fought performance for Starline Racing Kawasaki ahead of Peter Hickman who led the FHO Racing BMW Motorrad Team effort.

Bennetts British Superbike Championship, Brands Hatch, BikeSocial Sprint Race result:

Ryan Vickers (LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha) Danny Kent (Lovell Kent Racing Honda) +0.152s Christian Iddon (Oxford Products Racing Ducati) +2.173s Jack Kennedy (Mar-Train Racing Yamaha) +3.431s Jason O’Halloran (McAMS Yamaha) +4.566s Leon Haslam (ROKiT BMW Motorrad Team) +4.941s Tommy Bridewell (BeerMonster Ducati) +5.817s Storm Stacey (Starline Racing Kawasaki) +17.412s Peter Hickman (FHO Racing BMW Motorrad) +17.501s Glenn Irwin (BeerMonster Ducati) +17.814s

Bennetts British Superbike Championship standings:

Ryan Vickers

LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha

“I am so happy to have taken my first win and I can’t thank the team enough. It is an amazing feeling. There have been times in the last couple of years when I didn’t think winning would happen again, but I had people who believed in me, and with this team and package I am in a really good place.

“It is difficult to know what a rider is doing behind you, especially in the wet as Danny was stronger in some areas, but then I was stronger in others. You don’t know when someone will make a move, but I was riding my own comfortable pace. There was one corner that was tricky, but I was consistent and I just was hitting my markers and was focused on my own race.

“I felt comfortable leading and I felt happier being there, especially in wet conditions. I could see my pit board was +0.1 and it was difficult – I just tried to make no mistakes. We feel in a good place for tomorrow, I need to thank everyone who has supported me as without them over the last few years I wouldn’t be able to experience this amazing moment and I am going to enjoy every minute of it.”

Wayne Rainey Gives Thanks For Support Of Rainey’s Ride To The Races – MotoAmerica

Wayne Rainey (center) is surrounded by legends. (From left to right) Eddie Lawson, Kenny Roberts, Doug Chandler, Bubba Shobert, Rick Johnson, Kevin Schwantz and Carlos Checa. Photo by Jeff Bushnell Photography

Friday, July 7 was an amazing day for the Third Annual “Rainey’s Ride to the Races.” We had over 70 riders exploring the scenic Monterey Peninsula, taking two laps around the freshly paved WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca circuit, and enjoying a great catered lunch with the Legends. It was a ton of fun.

Following lunch, John Ulrich and Dan Argano gave an informative presentation on how the soft-air barrier systems continue to protect our riders in the road racing community, and we were all entertained by the Q & A session with the seven world-class racers. It was certainly unique and having the riders sign the commemorative posters for everybody was icing on the cake.

All of this supports the Roadracing World Action Fund, which provides for the purchase of the Air Fence and Alpina soft barriers. I think it’s amazing that because of your support, and others in our industry, we raised just shy of $100,000 from the ride.

I truly want to thank all the riders for taking part in this special event.

Additional thanks also go to our Legends for coming on the ride and for hanging out with all of us in the motorcycle community. I’d also like to thank the California Highway Patrol, Robb Talbott for his generous donation and for allowing us to stage at his museum, the Terry Vance Family Foundation, Les Stretch, and Gordon McCall for leading the ride, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca Raceway and, of course, Moto America and the MotoAmerica team that helped make this ride possible.

See you all next year!

Wayne Rainey
